About
Sandy Creek High School is located in the heart of Tyrone, Georgia. Tyrone is a family-oriented community located 15 minutes south of HartsfieldJackson International Airport in Atlanta. Sandy Creek is in the Fayette County Public School System, which consists of five high schools, five middle schools, and fifteen elementary schools.

SCHS is a four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of 1,150 students in grades nine through twelve. The school opened in the 1991- 92 school year and has received numerous awards including: 

  • The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program began at SCHS in 2018 with its first graduating class in May 2022.
  • The IB Diploma Programme at SCHS is a two-year pre-university rigorous international curriculum for students entering the 11th grade. Students can either be IB Course Candidates or IB Full Diploma Students.
  • 2025 U.S. News and World Report Best Public High School Ranked Top 100 best high schools in Georgia
  • State recognized Advanced Placement Honor School: Silver Status

The Curriculum
The school year is divided into two semesters each having two nine-week grading periods. Each school day consists of 7 periods, 50 minutes in length, with a one period opt-out for seniors with a weighted GPA of 3. 0 or higher. AP Courses
AP courses are requested and assigned during the prior school year. All AP students are required to take AP exams in May. Students are able to take up to 2 AP courses as a freshman, up to 3 as a sophomore, and 3 or more as juniors and seniors. The 2026-27 school will be the final year of the International Baccalaureate program.
